The Ugly Truth

The Ugly Truth
Two weeks ago I watched the movie The Ugly Truth. Its about an accomplished, smart,  and by the book news producer played by Katherine Hiegl who runs a morning news program. Unfortunately the program is going down the drain because it’s boring due to its conservative nature. In comes Mike played by Gerard Butler(dude from 300) who is a no holds barred, sexist, in your face, and offensive host that is brought in to boost the ratings. Katherine Heigls character despises him because he is a slap in the face to her credibility and accomplishments. Long story short his honest but offensive commentary boosts the ratings through the roof contrary to her by the book ways and beliefs. When I saw the movie it brought me back to this blog entry read about on the importance of being genuine.
I notice that well-liked people are genuine all the time whether it be at work, home, or a party. They are the same person all the time. They dont try hard to please everyone they are just simply themselves around everyone. Even if some people are initially offensive, everybody appreciates honesty. Nobody likes a person who is polite and nice to your face then turns around and says “I can’t stand that person.” You’d just rather know upfront that they do not like you. Being honest does make us more venerable but it brings out more of our individuality and personality to set us apart other others. Trying to please everyone and spreading yourself thin just makes us boring and mediocre. I am guilty of this because with new people I tend to be reserved and shy but my real personality is goofy and funny. The people that see my natural funny goofy personality enjoy my company more than the people I strictly talk sports or news events with. I’ve made 10 statements about me according the the blog post I’ve listed. Whenever I strike up a conversation with someone I make sure to include at least 2 of these statements about me to keep me authentic and not reaching too far to impress someone.
10 Statements about me
1. I’m goofy and love to make people laugh
2. I love all music but hip hop is my favorite(I hate it when people say “ohh I like everything” then you play something and they’re like “what’s this shit?”
3. I’m Filipino and proud of my heritage but I make fun of Filipinos alot. Not in a disrespectful way but because I know the culture so well I can point out funny aspects of it. Just like how Margret Cho talks about Koreans or Chris Rock on black people
4. I think I’m the only Asian that doesn’t like anime or Dragon Ball Z
5. I dont know how to play any card games except Go Fish.
6. I’m conscious about the clothes I wear maybe more so than most other guys but I’m not gay.
7. I enjoy trying new foods. I’m not too crazy about fast food but I’m always game to try a new sushi place or a different ethnic restuarant
8. I love driving around and listening to new music on my ipod. I dont have to worry about people seeing me singing or dancing along, unless its at a stop light. Then I turn it down a bit.
9. I enjoy watching and playing sports especially football and basketball. I also play golf but its only entertaining to watch when there’s a playoff or close down to the wire.
10. I enjoy kids because I’m still a kid at heart.
